Bronte Zoo , Oakworth , West Yorkshire

This Zoo was opened in 1972 ….Strangely there is very little written about this zoo … In 1976 it was listed as having the following animals Puma , Coyote , Dingo , Raccoon , Birds and a few Domestic Animals … Also a Bear , Mountain Lion (s) and Monkeys … The Zoo was on Station Road and was on a 1 1/2 acre plot .. The setting for the Zoo was reported as in an ” Idyllic Pretty Valley” … I have no images of the Zoo but adjacent to the Zoo is the Oakworth Railway Station (Keighley and Worth Valley Railway )… This Railway Station initially opened in 1867 and was closed in 1962 it was purchased by the KWVR and reopened in 1968 by them as a Heritage Railway … in 1970 The Railway Children film was based around the Station and the pictures shown here come from that film …… Sadly the Zoo is no longer in being the Limited company that in name “owned the Zoo ” Bronte Zoo (Oakworth) Ltd was dissolved in 1977 which is possibly when the Zoo closed down

I would love to find out more about this Zoo
